Sakhimfundo Youth Program

Sakhimfundo Youth Program was birthed in the year 2020, as response to the global pandemic which saw learners in townships, such as Alexandra miss out on any form of schooling and learning. The program had one volunteer staff member, 50 learners and two laptops that were used for Online programs: Reading Eggs and Mathseeds. The program is aimed at enhancing learner’s Literacy and Numeracy skills from Grade 1 through to Grade 9 and as a by-product, learners also develop basic computer literacy skills. In July 2024, Sakhimfundo experienced exponential growth from having 140 learners to having 400 learners, from having 15 tutors to having 36 tutors and from operating from one location to having 4 additional sites. This has enabled us to expand our reach in the community, offering additional learners the opportunity to receive the tutoring service and by so doing, also strengthening our partnership with the local schools. Monitoring, Evaluating and Learning are the backbone of our programs and our learner’s internal and external results are carefully analyzed quarterly to measure their progress. We conclude our academic year annually with an Awards Ceremony that seeks to celebrate the achievements of our learners per grade ranging from Top English, Top Mathematics, Most Improved Learner for English & Mathematics, Character, Leadership, Best Tutor Award and Most Engaged Parent Award.
