Samaritans Helping Hands 12

The ‘Samaritans 12’ charity organisation sprang into action during worldwide lockdowns to support the elderly, orphans, widows and the disabled, who had no one to provide for them. Since the beginning of the lockdown our Donors/members have enabled the charity to provide and distribute Mealie meal bags in different villages of Zimbabwe. Mielie meal is coarse flour made from Maize, it is healthy but widely available form of nutrition native to Southern Africa. By focusing on Mielie meal, we are able to help the largest amount of people with the money we have! Years of sanctions in Zimbabwe and COVID-19 has had a catastrophic impact on employment and livelihoods throughout Zimbabwean communities, resulting in widespread hunger, malnutrition and health issues. Thousands of people including older persons and children are not able to receive the regular care, and support from the government and the unemployment rate is very high. A lot of kids find themselves running away from home and living in the streets of Bulawayo and Harare fending for themselves because the conditions at home are very poor. Many children fall victim to physical and sexual abuse in the streets.
