Sandrine Pelletier

Sandrine Pelletier (Switzerland, 1976) borrows her creative and production processes from folk arts, from arts and crafts, ranging from their most worthy to their most trivial forms, as well as from DIY in order to conceive a corpus of free-standing works, all of which are underpinned by the notion of subversion and experimentation with the limits of materials. Trompe l’oeil effects and illusionism constitute simultaneously technical and metaphorical vectors which play a leading role in the formation of her works, whether they are works of stage scenography, displays or storytelling. Her artistic stance consists of adopting artisanal practices as part of a dialogue she facilitates between the subject and its depiction, between matter and symbol, using the tools of conceptual and minimal art in conjunction with folklore, superstitions and everyday life. Pelletier's complex structure/sculptures magnify her recurrent themes of metamorphosis, rituals and legends.
