Unfortunately, it is often seen as pure OPEX costs. Integrity management is the key to optimize production and increase revenues. It allows the assets to run smoother and longer under controlled operating parameters. Once optimized, the cost of integrity is negligible compared to a one-day production shut-down. A good integrity practice also limits the CO2 impact of production activities: replacing a pipeline (even a short one) has a high CO2 cost (steel manufacturing, transportation, energy for welding and transportation). During the acquisition of existing assets (mid-life or mature), the evaluation of their integrity status is a major decision factor. The lack of integrity means massive expenses for the investors (refurbishment of process units, structures, or pipelines).
