Savant Carbon

Carbon is a software product produced by Savant, a small Christchurch-based company in startup phase. Carbon is classed as “middleware” or a “game engine”, to be used by other software companies as a sort of “toolkit” to produce interactive 3D products such as games, simulations, VR applications or architectural applications. Middleware is similar to rendering software such as Lightwave, Maya or 3DStudio Max in that it performs the maths required to produce computer-generated visuals, but differs in that it is “real time”. This means that it produces visuals interactively when the client application is running rather than “offline” such as in the case of special effects work for films.
