Science Buddies

Our Mission: Science Buddies is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping students from all walks of life build their literacy in science and technology, so they can become productive and engaged citizens in the 21st century. Who We Are: Science Buddies is part of an emerging revolution in K-12 education, directly reaching millions of students, parents, and teachers with resources that reflect the latest research in how to effectively teach science. Filling a gap in traditional resources, we offer completely unique tools and content not available from any other source, whether non-profit or commercial. Highly personalized, we empower students to create individualized learning paths with easy-to-use tools that provide science and engineering projects, frameworks, and guidance. Our real-world, hands-on explorations are not only the best way to teach science, they make the subject relevant to students, positively impacting academic achievement and nurturing student interest in science. We expose students to career opportunities and role models that can translate to economic power both for the individual and for communities. Open access and freely available, we reach all students, demonstrably providing resources to disadvantaged students, schools, and families. We make science literacy possible for everyone. Reach: Our website had 16.7 million unique viewers in 2014, and over 1.2 million students registered to use our personalized learning tool, the Topic Selection Wizard. In fact, the Science Buddies website is one of the most popular science websites on the Internet. Awards: Foremost among our many honors, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the prestigious journal Science have awarded Science Buddies the Science Prize for Online Resources in Education (SPORE).
