Science Spaza

Science Spaza is a network of self-initiated science clubs and science centres that delivers hands-on, engaging and interactive learning experiences linked to the curriculum to Grade 6-9 school learners in South Africa. As an initiative of Jive Media Africa, a leading science communication agency, Science Spaza is managed under the auspices of the Yazi Centre for Science and Society in Africa, a non-profit organisation. Our mission at Science Spaza is to equip young learners with the knowledge, skills, confidence and role models to succeed in a rapidly changing world driven by science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and innovation (STEMi). This is why each resource or experience is designed to improve science literacy, develop entrepreneurial skills, and empower young people to make a positive difference in their communities. We leverage various communication channels, including a website, social media, print publications, and direct communication via telephone and WhatsApp. This way we are able to reach over 10 young science enthusiasts, across 140+ clubs throughout South Africa. Our approach has been highly successful, with learners engaging enthusiastically with our programs, which are designed to be fun, interactive, and hands-on. We believe that every learner deserves access to quality STEM education, and we work tirelessly to provide that access through our innovative programs, initiatives and specially curated resources.
