Empowering academic journals to publish open access articles Although Scriber fulfills the same role as most other publishers in South Africa, we have an unconventional philosophy about publishing. The landscape of academic publishing has changed so drastically in recent times, we have entered the market with a different agenda. Our aim is to empower academic journals to thrive in this open-access era. Although we start out by fulfilling as many traditional publishing roles as required, we aim for a future where a journal can become self-sufficient in as many areas as possible. We are not interested in the ownership of copyright or marketing ourselves at any possible opportunity. We try to remain in the background and create the infrastructure required by journals. The Scriber team consists of 6 part-time employees who also find their callings elsewhere.
