Scriptura provides a comprehensive range of high quality digitization services to meet the needs of research libraries, archives, museums and other cultural heritage organizations. Specializing in high resolution digital photography, the company works with academic researchers, archivists, curators, librarians, publishers, and other professionals, to produce exceptionally high quality images of illuminated medieval manuscripts, early printed books, historic maps, foundation charters, antiquarian prints, and other material from special collections. Our reputation rests upon our ability to handle rare and fragile books with the utmost care and sensitivity, and on our expertise in the use of high-end photographic equipment. Based in Oxford, we work closely with many of the College libraries, including the Oxford Conservation Consortium, and also with other UK and international institutions. Scriptura Limited was founded by Colin Dunn following seven years of work on two major academic research projects that, in collaboration with conservators and custodians, pioneered an approach to the digitization of rare and fragile manuscripts from special collections: Early Manuscripts Imaging Project at the University of Oxford in partnership with the Bodleian Library and six of the College libraries (Balliol, Corpus Christi, Jesus, Magdalen, Merton and St. John’s); Irish Script On Screen Project (1998–) at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies in partnership with Trinity College Dublin, Royal Irish Academy, National Library of Ireland, University College Dublin and University College Galway.
