With a Masters degree in Heritage Conservation from the University of Sydney School of Architecture and Design and extensive experience in heritage projects in both private and public sectors, we are often approached for design and consultation on the restoration and preservation of heritage buildings with high significance on local and state heritage registers. We therefore apply our technique in heritage architecture with the utmost of respect to the value of the existing heritage items while ensuring the continuous usage of the building, and the continuity of its contribution to our social and historic environment. Our design journey is intertwined with our client’s vision. As we develop our design we follow the clients experience and we embrace the qualities of the site whilst encapsulating qualities and experiences through architecture. Meeting the requirements outlined in Development Control Plans and Local Environmental Plans as well as numerous other rules and regulations can be challenging to organise independently and so we provide clients with not only education on application procedures but also tailor specific advice for a diverse range of projects in order to meet the needs of councils, planning authorities, clients and the wider community. SDA Architects specialise in heritage works and in particular, sandstone works, due to the Director’s (Anthony Sarkis) background in stone masonry. Consultations with clients regarding gathering and exploring design ideas is integral to our company’s ethos in terms of supporting clients through this continual schematic design phase. At SDA Architects, we encourage the contributions of our clients, and we shape their suggestions, ideas and expectations into our concepts. This approach is then combined with our strong focus on architectural philosophy and design based geometry, creates architecture to suite. Our final designs are often those which turn heads in the street, without imposing onto the streetscape.
