The most powerful learning is not done from (text)books. The most meaningful things you can learn, you learn from each other. I believe that this starts with asking (the right) questions instead of giving answers. During my studies I let a NGO that was active in disadvantaged neighbourhoods in Amsterdam. We bridged the segregation and generation gap by facilitating sharing of backgrounds, stories and opinions. Because the residents were learning from each other, the different groups became one community. I gained this approach while finishing my high school on a full scholarship at a United World College, in Canada. In this two-year period I graduated with an International Baccalaureate diploma, but more importantly I discovered the power of listening. As a trainer and facilitator I also imply this strategy within groups and communities. My training experience mostly focuses on young adults, through my work at (personal) leadership courses in The Netherlands, Europe and beyond. Letting people share and ensuring (personal) leadership in the broadest sense of the word is what interests and drives me. Although I learned most about life outside the academic world I do had the privilege of obtaining a bachelor of science in International Business, which I concluded with a thesis on the role of servant leadership in overcoming cross-cultural differences. I went on and finished a master of science in International Management by looking at the influence of city characteristics in location choice. Born in Stockholm, raised in Amsterdam and traveled the world extensively, I feel like a citizen of the world. I Love sports and making most of life. Most experiences in my life, from being a volunteer fire chief till headmaster of a school and many more, give me energy and a smile.
