Hey, If you would like to know a little more about my small business and the drive behind it you have come to the right place. I am the designer, maker & human creator behind all the products you find on my site and in my Etsy shop. I am a working mum of two beautiful girls and wife to a handsome man. My crafting journey started when I was a child, entering school & local competitions drawing and creating things as a hobby. I began again properly with a passion in 2008, I say “properly” but I actually mean constantly, as I had more time with my girls growing up and becoming more independent. I began setting myself new challenges and attending classes to learn new techniques and meet other crafters. It very quickly became an obsession as I love giving gifts and finding something that is a little different, so I began making items for my home and to give as gifts. Some of my proudest moments have been purchasing bargain off cuts of luxury fabric brands and decorating our home with the most expensive yet inexpensive soft furnishings. I love visiting crafting markets and window shopping especially around the festive period, taking inspiration for creating my own designs, decorations and bespoke items. I have always been passionate about art and design, I love creating beautiful items to make our lives feel that little bit more luxurious and add a personal touch to all my creations. Sew Awesome originally started as a hobby encouraged by my husband, family and friends. I began my website / blog back in 2012 and I also started using social media such as Instagram & Twitter to post my recent makes along my journey to where I am today. Coming from a very creative family where both my nans would be either sewing their own clothes or knitting for one of us has inspired me to embrace my love of fabric, art, colourful, cute, quirky and of course who can resist a little sparkle and to begin creating my own designs. As a child my mother painted my walls with 4ft Fantasia characters, which I think has really encouraged my love of drawing and art in general. We have always been encouraged to express our creative talents, which I now do with my own daughters. I love knitting and crochet as well as drawing and sewing and really have an obsession for textiles. Combining traditional techniques and modern technology really has opened up a whole new world of possibilities allowing me to create more intricate and consistently perfect new designs. My biggest handmade project was for our wedding, back in August 2013. I decided I wanted to do it all myself. My husband and I designed our invites, built a website, made all our bunting, designed and made all our table decorations, made all our favours and embroidered them, I also made the bouquets for my daughters and their tiaras and confetti bags. It really was a big project but I thoroughly enjoyed it and everything was perfect. I continued sewing, knitting, making decorations and gifts and even got a bag making obsession, when my husband reminded me that everything I make needs to go somewhere and we can’t keep it all! I had also been having enquiries about my items if I would make them for others, “am I selling them?” So summer 2017 I decided to and here I am creating my own little brand.
