Shepherds Stories is more than just a backpackers’ hostel, it’s a concept. One that believes in, and breathes experience based travel in all its aspects. Apart from providing exceptional living experience to guests, Shepherd Stories primarily upholds two values- promoting traditional arts and crafts, and environmental sustainability. We began our operations in July 2018, with our first property in Hyderabad, Telangana. This hostel is designed to incorporate our two guiding values- whether it means using locally procured Pochanpalli fabric for bedsheets, curtains and cushions, or furniture created entirely out of upcycled wood, among other things, to give just two examples Apart from conventional hostel facilities like bed and breakfast, free Wi-Fi, an open kitchen and a common space, Shepherd Stories is also designed to include an in-house café, a cultural space for events and providing home-cooked local cuisine to the guests. Within one year of its operation Shepherd Stories managed to become the top rated hostel in Hyderabad on several online platforms. We, however, see ourselves not just as an eco- friendly, one stop accommodation solution for travelers, but also as an enterprise that actively engages with local artisans to make their art a more viable livelihood option for them. In future, we seek to involve travelers as change makers who work closely with artisans, to improve their livelihood. We also plan to continue organizing regular events and workshops to nurture a community of art lovers and ensuring best of experiences for our guests. In next five years, we plan to expand to several locations across India, where the gap for quality budget accommodation and, a need to conserve traditional arts and crafts exists. We believe in travel’s potential to revive traditional arts and crafts, and it is this potential we are trying to realize through Shepherd Stories.
