Welcome to the shiatsu practice of Eisbrand H.F. Sijmons In this website I hope to describe the amazing way shiatsu works and why I am dedicated to this treatment. I also hope to make it clear in a nutshell what shiatsu means, when it is prescribed and who I am. An ancient cure evolved in the Far East, shiatsu was developed to prevent illness and to allow the self-healing powers of the body to work and correct the condition. Through shiatsu the body will be stimulated to start the healing process and keep the body on the right path to health. The medical shiatsu therapist first makes a diagnosis of the problem by checking the body’s pressure points – the so-called “tsubopoints of the meridian - with his thumbs and the palm of his hand. Shiatsu (literally “finger-pressure) is based on the knowledge that problems in muscles, nerves and organs reveal themselves in the network of meridians through which the life-energy flows. “This inspection and all other shiatsu treatments are gentle and non-invasive and are generally performed through the clothing of the patient.”
