SHINE (Support and Help IN Education) is a leading education charity committed to closing the attainment gap and tackling educational inequality across the North of England. We are dedicated to providing support for teachers in development of innovative classroom teaching practices to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils from low income homes across the North of England – driving long-term social mobility and ensuring every child has the opportunity to succeed, no matter what their background is. We identify, evaluate, and help scale innovative solutions in primary and secondary education, prioritising projects focused on the core subjects: English, Maths, and Science. Our flagship grant-making programme Let Teachers SHINE (LTS) provides crucial financial backing for teachers to expand their innovative projects and reach even more children. The fund specifically offers grants if up to over one to two years, for teachers to scale up, test and refine their project. Let Teachers SHINE also provides continuous support for teachers through mentorship, training, networking, and the opportunity for successful projects (like Times Tables Rock Stars, HegartyMaths, Vocabulous, Boromi and The Story Project) to secure additional scaling grants in the future. Our consistent success (92% of funded projects met their goals) is driven by robust evidence and evaluation practices, so that innovations can scale up effectively and demonstrate impact. We champion and support people, projects and processes that lead to educational equity and increased social mobility for young people in the North of England. We collaborate with partners like ImpactEd Group, The Tutor Trust, Ambition Institute, and The Northern Powerhouse Partnership to influence policy and drive systemic change for children facing persistent disadvantage.
