Shmu

Station House Media Unit is a cultural charity based in Aberdeen and is at the forefront of Community Media development in Scotland. It supports residents in the seven regeneration areas of Aberdeen in radio and video production, traditional and on-line publications, music production and digital inclusion. The organisation also offers an employability programme, shmuTRAIN which supports people aged 16-25 in Aberdeen city and shire into a positive destination. Our Media Access Project (MAP) based within HMP & YOI Grampian supports offenders, both pre and post release, to gain skills within prison in order to reintegrate positively into their communities upon release. Successful initiatives have made the organisation a nationally recognised centre of excellence and created models of good practice in youth work, regeneration, digital inclusion, personal and community development and the curriculum for excellence. Having recently secured funding to refurbish and expand the shmu headquarters in Woodside, the organisation is now beginning a fundraising campaign, Paving the Way to Woodside, to raise money to equip the space with new industry standard equipment for their volunteers and target communities ot access.
