Sikat- Helping Children Develop

SIKAT is a charitable Trust registered in England and Wales, Charity number 1123801, constituted by a declaration of Trust dated 30 October 2007. It is based in London. Its aim is to give hope and raise the aspiration of children and young adult in deeply disadvantaged communities in the Philippines. SIKAT has been set up to benefit young adults by providing books, and equipment, commissioning building and development projects, initially in the Village of Calingag in the Province of Oriental Mindoro, in the southern part of the Philippines. SIKAT's work in the UK is mainly fundraising and administration. this work is carried out entirely by the Trustees and volunteers. In 2005, a local family donated of land to Calingag community, and the Villagers build a makeshift school to provide boys and girls aged 11- 24 from rural areas and poor families who could not access a secondary school. The Secondary School in town could no longer accommodate students within its limited sized classrooms. The makeshift school started with 68 students in a one classroom. The year 2009-2010 it has an enrolment of 214. In Oct. 2008, an old rice warehouse has been used as a library so that the children and their parents can have access to the books SIKAT has been able to send since 2006.
