The dream of adding value to agroforestry crops began when Matthew Falkiner and Eric Ponçon met for the first time at a coffee specialty convention in Philadelphia. Falkiner was presenting handcrafts made with coffee wood and Eric as an executive of an international coffee-trading group. It was here when Matthew, an architect and furniture designer, decided to go into business with the Ponçon family led by agronomist Clément-Marie and Eric Ponçon, who had already started a forestry project in which they set out to plant hectares of noble wood species in Nicaragua. The company became official in when the Ponçon family and Matthew Falkiner opened a showroom in Managua, which gave birth to Simplemente Madera Group as a production platform for sustainable design and manufacturing strategies using natural, renewable and certified materials.
