Slaughter Community Charter School

Mission and Vision The Slaughter Community Charter School, in cooperation with its parents and the broader community, will empower its students to become successful learners who graduate with the capacity for rigorous college opportunities. SCCS will provide a powerful learning experience that intellectually engages, inspires, and spurs academic achievement through a challenging and interactive college-preparatory curriculum. Every Day, Every Knight Will Advance Our History A group of citizens and community leaders pursued approval of a charter school for the Slaughter School District. At the time, the only educational offering was through Slaughter Elementary School. Middle and high school classes were offered in the northern part of East Feliciana Parish and did not, at the time, provide college preparatory classes. Our charter sought to move Slaughter Elementary students into a middle and high school that offered a public education to channel students into either college prep or basic curricula necessary for successful graduation. The SCCS Charter was approved by the East Feliciana School Board at its June 2009 meeting. The community group moved forward with formation of our middle and high school. In the fall of 2011, Slaughter Community Charter School opened to a host of 7th & 8th graders. With a successful year behind them, the opening of the 2012/2013 school year brought in a 9th grade class. Each year, another grade level has been added and now the school houses 7th - 12th grade students. With determination and a community behind Slaughter Community Charter School, the school infuses rigor, sets high expectations, and expands access and opportunity for ALL students. Academic programs provide culturally and personally relevant activities designed to engage students in problem solving, academic discourse and critical analysis. We challenge our students to aim higher and achieve more!
