In the context of achieving carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals in China, the decarbonization of freight sector is playing an increasingly important role. Smart Freight Centre has been operating in China since 2014, with a view to understand how logistics emissions reductions need to be realized by multinational companies operating in emerging economies and given China’s logistics sector is a large and growing contributor to the global GHG emissions. SFCC activities include: GLEC adaption to China market. SFC worked with the Ministry of Transport, China Federation of Logistics and Purchase and issued 3 industry standards on GHG emission calculation and carrier sustainability assessment. In addition, SFC works together with MNCs to apply the GLEC framework in its calculations and reporting in China related emissions. Smart Freight Shippers Alliance. SFC established a shippers collaboration platform in August 2019 working toward compliance, safety, efficiency and green logistics. SFSA plays a core role in aligning shippers/LSPs decarbonization efforts, and linking them with key logistics partners. Smart Carrier Pool. SFC established a pool of carriers that meets shippers choice in compliance, safety, efficiency and green development. Zero Emission Freight Initiative is a national green freight program participated by think tanks, OEMs, technology providers. ZEFI accelerates the adoption of zero emission trucks and related freight efficiency solutions in China by enabling collaboration between key stakeholders and develop supportive policies, programs and strategies. Smart Freight Forums and Sustainable Logistics Roadmap Training tailored for China. SFC China office organizes bimonthly dialogue and deep dive sessions to facilitate collaboration and build consensus on key challenges and solutions of zero emission freight.
