Smart Sutures LLC, is an early-stage surgical technology company that has developed a patented wound closure consumable that will improve patient safety in minimally invasive surgery (MIS), reduce hospital operating times, and increase adoption of MIS over open surgery. Suturing during minimally invasive surgery is one of the most difficult surgical skills to acquire, with fewer than 50% of US medical graduates able to do so. Even for veteran surgeons, it is difficult, stressful, and time-consuming. The Smart Suture’s patented “coil” design solves this problem, enabling intracorporeal knots to be tied easier, faster and with less movement. The Smart Suture uses the exact same components as existing FDA-approved sutures, supporting ease of adoption and streamlined regulatory approval.
