Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and their use are demonstrably a critical difference between surviving sudden cardiac arrest and becoming another tragic statistic. smartaed's goal is to ensure that AEDs are accessible and operable when they are needed. smartaed is a collective effort of survivors, their friends & loved ones, and the experts who made the difference, to understand, develop and apply 21st century technology to maximise the survivability of sudden cardiac arrest in NSW, Australia, and around the world. smartaed is a collaboration that brings together a combination of strategic, marketing and engineering design expertise that is informed by more than 120 years of innovation and development experience. Long time colleagues David Lamond and Stan Glaser were searching for the electronic design expertise that would enable them to translate into reality their vision of a publicly accessible defibrillator that could be located and monitored in real time. They found that talent, and willingness to engage, in Tony Richardson, whose breadth and depth of experience in bio-medical, communications and instrumentation design makes for an excellent fit.
