South Swell

In January 2008, the shop was purchased and brought on local resident John Batten as the General Manager. All this in an effort to preserve the local surf shop footprint. John grew up in Emerald Isle, and have been surfing the local breaks for more than 15 years. After attending the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, its an honor to be back home rebuilding the shop, a shop I had fond memories of ever since I was a grubby grom. The foundation for our name is that of Bogue Banks, the barrier island for which the shop sits. The island faces south and our primary swell window is from the south. Two and a half months of blood, sweat and tears, went into remodeling South Swell. We opened our doors in March of 2008. Our goal is to provide the newest surf and skate selection, cleanest facility, and unmatched customer service.
