Spearhead Project Earth

Spearhead Project Earth® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to environmental restoration, education, and community engagement along the Delaware River and surrounding waterways. We believe that hands-on experiences—especially removing single-use plastics from natural environments—are one of the most powerful ways to inspire environmental awareness and long-term stewardship. Our work centers on shoreline and river cleanups, marine debris removal, and habitat restoration projects that protect ecosystems connected to international waterways. Volunteers participate in regular cleanup efforts along the Delaware River and at Burlington Island, NJ, a 400-acre historic river island where environmental action is paired with education about the island’s cultural history and the impacts of plastic pollution. Spearhead Project Earth® also conducts marine debris monitoring in partnership with NOAA’s Marine Debris Monitoring and Assessment Project (MDMAP), collecting data that supports science-based environmental advocacy and policy solutions. Beyond cleanup efforts, SPE leads community improvement and restoration initiatives, including riverfront revitalization projects that involve invasive species removal, native plantings, and public space enhancements. We are deeply committed to environmental education, offering presentations, field-based learning experiences, and youth programs that empower the next generation of environmental leaders. We welcome volunteers for cleanups, environmental monitoring, education, marketing and communications, administrative support, and boating or leadership roles. Whether on the water, in the field, or behind the scenes, every volunteer plays a vital role. Together, we are restoring the integrity and beauty of the Delaware River and its shorelines—for the benefit of our communities and future generations.
