Spectrom Acq Makerbot
Spectrom was founded in 2013 when chemical engineering students Cedric Kovacs-Johnson and Chase Haider realized 3D printing was missing a critical 4th dimension: color. The young and growing 3D printing industry has focused on lowering costs and improving print time, yet little attention has been given to adding color. To tackle this problem, Cedric and Chase applied their knowledge of polymer and dye chemistry to create the only device that seamlessly brings variable color to FDM 3D printers. The innovative approach and functional prototype won first place in both categories at the 2014 UW Innovation Days Competition: The Schoofs Prize for Creativity and the Tong Prototype Prize. The technology debut caught the attention of the 3D printing community and was featured in articles on CNN Money, Gigaom and 3D Printing Industry, among others. We look forward to bringing you the next dimension of 3D printing soon!
