STL is a specialist consultancy providing advanced electronic product design services. We have particular expertise in the end-to-end development of high-voltage automatic testing and diagnostic systems, as well as the highly specialised power electronics that underpin them. Operating from our modern design, prototyping, and test laboratory, we can deliver fully packaged product designs as an ODM, but can also integrate directly into customers’ R&D teams to provide targeted technical and/or design management expertise on specific projects. Alongside consultancy, STL has also independently developed a range of proprietary power electronics technologies that are available under license. These include solutions for precision high-current/high-voltage arbitrary waveform generation from both mains and battery sources. Our latest innovation, the patent-pending ‘Digital Variac’, is a smart/connected 3 kVA solid-state variable transformer module (utilizing direct high-frequency AC–AC conversion) that is intended as a drop-in replacement for traditional Variacs. It is scalable to tens of kVA and three-phase systems, offers Modbus/Ethernet/Webserver control, directly drives step-up/step-down transformers, and incorporates a built-in precision power analyser. All STL systems leverage advanced technologies including planar magnetics, wide-bandgap semiconductors (SiC/GaN), and DSP+FPGA-based control architectures. These platforms are deployed in high-power electrical testers as well as industrial applications. STL is headquartered in the historic town of Hertford, near London.
