Spouse Force

Spouse Force™ is a Veteran-owned social enterprise business that provides remote employment and skills development to Australian military spouses. Over 90% of Spouse Force are military spouses. Military family incomes lag behind the civilian sector and the gap is widening. A major reason for this is spouse unemployment. Defence spouse unemployment is 22%; with 63% reporting some level of under-employment. This is despite 40% holding a university degree compared to 30% of the working age population*. Financial stress on serving families poses a risk to the readiness of military forces and impacts ADF member retention. We believe strongly that spouses are not charity cases. They just face the unique challenge of moving every time their spouse is posted to a new location. These figures are from extensive, long-term US studies. Australian figures (while unknown) are likely to be similar or potentially worse given our more frequent posting cycles.
