Architecture and Structural Engineering Services Architectural Overview SLD is an integrated Architecture and Structural Engineering firm. We create durable and healthy buildings and spaces by practicing building science. This means we base design decisions on observation, evidence, and logic. This does not mean that we disregard aesthetics or the needs of the client. Instead it means SLD’s staff is absorbed on a daily basis with the challenging 3D+ puzzle that is architecture. We use time tested methods and new technology to prevent the ravages of all kinds of water incursion. We research how every new and old material performs for a particular purpose alone and when combined in assemblies. We figure out how to put it all together in a way that economizes construction cost and energy efficiency. And, in the end, we create something that withstands the test of time. Building science is the supporting framework that allows us to make great places that last. Structural Overview From complex multi-story commercial buildings to simple beam calculations, we can provide design for almost any type of structure or project. From Albany Housing Authority to NYS OGS, our staff has worked with many state and local agencies and has experience with projects such as hospitals, schools, and maximum security prisons. From The Mount in Lenox, MA to the New York State Capitol building, we have renovation experience with some of the region's great historic structures. From traditional center hall Federal style residential rehabilitation to ultra-modern glass and steel commercial new construction, we bring dexterity and skill to each project we design.
