Founded in 1907, Stainer & Bell is well known for its early 20th-century works – Holst, Howells, Stanford, Vaughan Williams, etc. – forming the beginning of an important catalogue of British sacred and secular choral, chamber, art song and orchestral music which is continued through to the present. The company is also recognised for its distinguished collected editions including Musica Britannica, The Byrd Edition, Early English Church Music and new volumes in the Purcell Society Edition. Contemporary British hymnody and religious song also feature prominently in the catalogue, which represents many of the most influential hymnwriters acknowledged today.
