Twelve years with the newspaper laid the basis for my interest in advertising, provided working knowledge of the printing process in general, and fostered an interest in design from doing thousands of layouts for a wide range of clients. The opportunity of providing these services as advertising manager for an expanding furniture chain presented itself and the next five years were spent learning about - and working with - practically every newspaper in eastern Tennessee. Because of the large volume of printed materials needed other than advertising, a wealth of experience and knowledge was gained in working with printing houses in the greater Knoxville area. Since the decision to go into business for myself, this experience has been available to the local firms in the form of advertising and graphic design services.
