Stichting Rhiza

The Rhiza Foundation develops underprivileged children and youth towards a self-sustainable and humane life. Rhiza does this through projects regarding education, healthcare, skills development and enterprise development. The necessity of the projects is enormous, mainly in the townships / slumps where facilities and opportunities to grow which we take for granted are absent. Rhiza always works towards self-sustainability, because: 1 It is important that the beneficiaries become able to stand on their own two feet 2 After reaching self-sustainability Rhiza does not have to pay for any costs of the project and is therefore able to start a new project. This is how we develop the maximum amount of lives towards a self-sustainable, humane life. To give you a better understanding of how our self-sustainability model works, we provide for an example of an early childhood development (ECD) centre, which teaches children between 2 and 6 years old. First we build or renovate the school such that facilities are in order. We also train the teachers and implement an official learning method such that they have an official diploma and quality of teaching is guaranteed. At the same time we advise the teachers and head of school on how to draw more children and often the school is of sufficient quality to be eligible for government subsidies. This increases the school income. Once the school income is sufficient to cover costs, we take a step back, but remain on the background to monitor the progress and give advice if needed. We are then able to focus our efforts towards a new school and develop as many lives as possible. Rhiza is active in the Netherlands, South Africa and Ghana. In the Netherlands we do not have any projects because the focus in the Netherlands is on raising brand awareness and funds to enable the great work in South Africa and Ghana.
