Which is worse, publicly traded tobacco manufacturers making money from poisoning people, or the United States and other governments receiving more than half of the profits from the sale of poison? Too close to call? Not really. Government has the power to end the sale of tobacco. Officers and directors at publicly traded tobacco manufacturers have a fiduciary duty to their shareholders to keep their company thriving, regardless of what chewing and inhaling their product does to people, animals, the planet, etc. That's why they StompOut Tobacco Petition Mission is so important. The more people that sign it, the more clout we have as a group to bring about change. We'd like to know what the government is doing with the dirty money they're accepting from big tobacco? We'd like to know how much money makes addicting more people to tobacco worthwhile? Is there a formula? An algorithm? The death of X people is with $Y million dollars? We'd like to know what X equals and what Y equals? Does X vary based on what country the person lives in? Since tobacco product sales continue to grow disproportionately in third world countries, X must be a much larger number than X for people living in the US, right? The answer to the tobacco dilemma, the death of millions of people from first hand and second smoking and chewing tobacco, has been the same since we first learned that tobacco maims and kills.
