The Lebanese Civil War in 1975 prompted his move to Belgium, where he later enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Boitsfort, Brussels. Jean's artistic journey is deeply influenced by his personal history and the cultural narratives of East and West. After more than three decades in the jewelry business, Jean shifted focus entirely to art, seeking a "totally free artistic approach" that offers him "extraordinary energy." His work uniquely incorporates the element of fire, using its destructive yet creative power to achieve harmony within chaos. At Studio Jean Boghossian, Jean explores innovative techniques on canvas, involving folding, stapling, burning, and unfolding before stretching the final piece onto frames. This process not only transforms the material but also challenges the boundaries of traditional art forms. In 1992, alongside his family, Jean founded the Boghossian Foundation at Villa Empain in Brussels, a cultural hub bridging diverse worlds. Jean’s work, while echoing the fiery methods of artists like Claudio Parmiggiani and Yves Klein, forges new paths with its unique approach and random yet beautiful outcomes due to smoke and fire.
