Studio Ninakarim

Making documentaries is creating space for both strength and vulnerability. My films expose processes of change, which are sometimes painful and raw. I have a soft spot for the underdog who, with few resources, must find a way through his fate. I am touched by how, after great doubt, you find the strength in yourself. By offering a platform for vulnerability, I hope to bring people closer together, to bring about recognition and to evoke mildness; for how others make their choices and mistakes, so that you can look at yourself with the same mildness. With my positive, sometimes romantic, view of the world, I cannot be separated from what I film. I do not believe in a fixed reality. For me, the creative process is a constant interaction, whereby a new reality is always created in the contact between me and my characters, the space and the creative choices I make within it. Underlying these personal and intimate stories are often socially critical questions about how our society works and how value is measured in our society.
