Australia has embedded cultural norms about staying silent. “Dobbers” and “snitches” are vilified and many of us can’t find the courage to call out racist, sexist and dehumanising behaviour. Our young people struggle to sacrifice their ‘social currency’ to find the courage to #saysomething in emergent situations involving bullying, peer-to-peer conflict and serious harm. Stymie is a verb that by definition, means to prevent or stop. We seek to challenge the accepted cultural norms of bystanding behaviours, by providing a safe place for young people to anonymously report any kind of harm, igniting the welfare and allied supports embedded in their school’s wellbeing framework. Stymie is Australia’s only online, anonymous harm reporting tool for students who are seeing or experiencing harm. We deliver encrypted, anonymous notifications to authorised recipients (adult humans!) in schools who respond according to their organisation's wellbeing or pastoral framework.
