Makiyo and Moriichi Sumida began growing watercress in 1928 on five acres of Kalauao Springs’ land, a source of nourishment for Hawaiian people for more than a millennium. Located in ‘Aiea, Hawai'i as a green oasis in the middle of a concrete desert, Sumida Farm has nourished the community for 94+ years with watercress grown in the freshwater springs of the Kalauao.
