Intimate conversations with the industry’s best and brightest. We flip the script on cinematic discourse and explore the spaces in between: what occurs after the title smash, the stories that linger once the director yells cut, the ceaseless unknown that persists long after the visuals end. In Richard Linklater’s Before Sunrise, Celine (played by Julie Delpy) tells Ethan Hawke’s Jesse, “I really believe that if there’s any kind of god, he wouldn’t be in any one of us – not you, not me – but just this space in between. If there’s some magic in this world, it must be in the attempt of understanding someone else, sharing something, even if it’s almost impossible to succeed. But who cares – the answer must be in the attempt.” We are that wondrous stream of ideas such spaces engender and cultivate. We are the dot that expands on the narrative, the oft-forgotten Act 2 that fills in all the gaps. We are both the mouthpiece and the messenger, the stories that begin as soon as the line finally SMASH CUTS. The bigger conversation exists in all these spaces between things. We hope to start there.
