SuSy Research started in September 2019 in Bristol, UK, from an idea of Mauro Fazion about systemic sustainability. The original idea was “system robustness”, or, what defines system robustness and how a system could be more or less robust? Then Mauro started to build concepts and engineering mathematical models to deal with this problem, which directly addresses sustainability. SuSy Research then was born with two fundamental pillars: to be an independent research centre, and to be a social enterprise. Independent because freedom of thinking is essential to develop real innovative and disruptive ideas, projects and products. Social because sustainability is a global cause and our research targets the benefit of the less-favoured. Our projects are based on our own models and algorithms, which are also related to AI/ML techniques, complex adaptive systems and graph theory. From the very beginning SuSy Research comes with the following projects: • Sikur Lab, the cybersecurity research lab of Sikur where Mauro is personally involved and engaged to build a Research Lab for this amazing startup, which evolved in a few years to be one of the most important in the cybersecurity sector according to Gartner. • SuSy Checker, the online automatic score for building sustainability and potential energy savings. It is a “building fitness app”: on the web-map, with just one click on a building, SuSy Checker calculates the building potential energy and water savings, solar/wind energy possibilities, the wellbeing and several other scores, all for free for the homeowner, anywhere in the world. • SuSy Knower is a model for “knowledge mapping”, that is, an automatic mapping system that shows sustainable graph routes for knowledge. • SuSy Robuster is an application to analyse the robustness of a system in terms of its “structure” and the “processes” running on top of the structure. SuSy Robuster online shows a risk index for the system under scrutiny.
