Sutherland Shire Environment Centre

Sutherland Shire Environment Centre (SSEC) is an independent, not-for-profit, community organisation actively involved in a wide range of projects aimed at maintaining the natural beauty and character of the Shire, and surrounding waterways and parks. SSEC promote sustainability, support environmental education, and welcome community involvement to help address environmental issues that affect the Shire and its bioregions. A current focus is to protect the water supply at Woronora – including the recent petition calling for the mining underneath our reservoir to be stopped. SSEC supports a number of other fantastic environmental initiatives, in addition to this campaign. If you are interested in living more sustainably at home, or at work, SSEC may be able to help. SSEC's Sunny Shire, SO Shire, and Plastic Free Sutherland Shire groups liaise with a number of local organisations, schools and businesses, and can offer advice about solar energy, batteries, and sustainable practices. Every region in Australia needs protecting by an environment centre. This is especially true for the Sutherland Shire – one of the most remarkable local government regions in Australia. It is home to a host of natural features: the two great bays, Port Hacking and Botany Bay; three of Sydney’s six rivers, four national parks including the oldest in the world; many of Sydney’s best beaches; and the place where Aboriginal and European cultures first met. Please visit the SSEC website to see how you can get involved in one of their campaigns.
