Tactical Aesthetics

Tactical Aesthetics is a transregional research-based multimedia production initiative focused on human rights through the arts. TA is both a creative think tank and production company focused on the interplay between humanitarian aid and development and the role of arts and culture in conflict mediation and peace-building. Using socio-aesthetic interventions to truly impact the lives of people in relevant and transformative ways, we address the world's most pressing problems from a fresh perspective. TA is currently producing a series of documentaries: The Backway/The Maelstrom (in production) focuses on the tragic phenomenon of “backway” migration from West Africa to Europe. This film also includes the construction of a public Memorial for Africans Lost at Sea, which is being realized in collaboration with the Gambian government and families of missing and/or deceased migrants. Kids In Crisis (in production) focuses on child protection services and art therapy for displaced people in Uganda and India, with a particular focus on abused children and victims of war. This film addresses processes of rehabilitation, reconciliation, and life after trauma. The Interventionists (in postproduction) is an ongoing series of interviews with interventionists who are actively on the global frontlines of pressing social challenges. The film includes artists, activists, educators, policy makers, scientists, and medical professionals who put their lives on the line to make this a better world for everyone. Partner and Collaborate: TA works on joint project bids and commissions with both grassroots and humanitarian and development agencies within the international development ecosystem, and with local businesses and governments. We also work with public artists and educators seeking to coordinate arts and culture and/or educational interventions in developing countries. We specialize in working in emerging economies and difficult to access locations, esp. across Africa
