About TEDxFortMcMurray This is a century of urbanization and rapid change. Already today, more than 50% of the world's population lives in urban areas. This figure is projected to reach 85% by 2100. Emerging cities like Fort McMurray have an unprecedented window of opportunity to shape their urban futures. And, the future is closer than you think. We need to pay urgent attention to the tangibles, such as housing and hard infrastructure, but also weave the intangible strands that strengthen the social fabric. TEDxFortMcMurray is an independently organised event licensed from TED by TEDxsters Manny and Beverley Makia and organised by a local network of fellow thinkers, game-changers and impassioned volunteers. The TEDxFortMcMurray mission, is to propagate Ideas Worth Spreading to inform and inspire action. Our vision for TEDxFortMcMurray is to make it a leading platform and pipeline for the propagation of great ideas, creativity and actionable innovation; to create and foster a sense of community amongst the people and organisations who continue to gather around this event; to provide a focus and impetus for dialogue, debate and action. About TED TED is a nonprofit organization devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. Started as a four-day conference in California 30 years ago, TED has grown to support its mission with multiple initiatives. The two annual TED Conferences invite the world's leading thinkers and doers to speak for 18 minutes or less. The annual TED Conference takes place each spring in Vancouver, British Columbia. TED's media initiatives include TED.com, where new TED Talks are posted daily; TED Translators, which provides subtitles and interactive transcripts as well as translations from volunteers worldwide; the educational initiative TED-Ed. TED has established The Audacious Project that takes a collaborative approach to funding ideas with the potential to create change at thrilling scale; TEDx, which supports individuals or groups in hosting local, self- organized TED-style events around the world, and the TED Fellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
