Terra Agora Foundation

How can the places people care about remain cared for across generations? Fundação Terra Agora (FTA) is a Portuguese foundation dedicated to bringing land of ecological, social, and cultural value into permanent Guardianship. We provide the legal and institutional architecture that allows land to remain in continuous care — supported by communities, protected through appropriate stewardship structures, and continually regenerated for the benefit of both people and nature. FTA holds land as a Strategic Asset in trust for the long term, while Guardian Entities — formalised collectives of practitioners and communities — take on its day-to-day care through long-duration stewardship agreements. FTA takes care without taking over: land use remains in the hands of those closest to it, within a framework designed for continuity spanning generations. Our flagship, the 1,600-hectare Idanha-à-Vida estate in central Portugal, demonstrates this model at landscape scale. Progress is measured through the 4 Returns framework — inspiration, social, natural, and financial returns — creating Genuine Value for people, communities, and the living systems that sustain them. We welcome supporters, land contributors, and strategic allies who share this commitment to continuity, stewardship, and resilience.
