The Acting Lab Nyc--Actor Training Program

Training Actors for Fearless Creative Expansion Overview The Acting Lab NYC focuses on mastery of foundational techniques and widening awareness of multiplicity of approaches to performance. Students benefit from strict, rigorous instruction in individual/ small groups and advance by training within a company, exploring and experimenting with different methodologies and performance styles that stretch the complexity of their artistic work and further challenge their skills. The wide range of influences in my artistic experience and training have expanded my ability to guide actors in finding their voice within each genre of work. With the simple premise that an artist's growth is propelled by his own search guided by one who has matured within the rigor of her practice, our exploration is supported by numerous methodologies. The aim to master complementary, as well as opposing techniques, e.g. from Stanislavski to Suzuki, free the artist to stay true to his/her most current inspired work. These techniques serve the work rather than visa-versa. Their use, even as hybrids, illuminate the actor's interpretation outside the limits and encumbrance of a single methodology, enabling for a more complex rendering. It is in this spirit that risks are encouraged and fearlessness and faith in one's work are inspired, for in understanding the tradition and effectiveness of each method can playfulness begin, success experienced in stumbling through the challenges of our work.
