The Berkeley County Museum
Our mission is to collect, preserve, research, exhibit, and interpret the diverse cultural and natural history of Berkeley County, South Carolina. Through rotating and permanent exhibits, we hope to inform and inspire visitors for years to come. In 1992, The Berkeley County Museum and Heritage Center opened its doors in a new building reminiscent of an old working plantation home. The museum was the creation of a diverse group of civic leaders, preservationists, businesses, and historians. The Berkeley County Historical Society was the founding body of the Berkeley County Museum and Heritage Center. The museum is now a separate entity, governed by its own board of directors and its operations overseen by its own staff.
