The Bottom
The Bottom is a Black owned, multi-purpose community space for literary, creative and educational programming. We address place issues for Black people in urban Appalachia and cultivate Black-focused arts and humanities programs and initiatives to a community that has, historically, been overlooked and underfunded. Beyond programming, we host affinity groups, skills training, exhibits, and events year-round and create space and avenues for our inter-generational community to engage in Black-centered and affirming arts, while uplifting local artists, authors, and makers. Our programs include 1) Sew it Sell It; 2) Community Podcast Studio; 3) Bookshop at the Bottom; 4) Black Creatives Meetup; 5) Elandria Williams Reading and Research Room. Join us in our mission to build community, celebrate culture and engage the creativity of Black people through curated events, ongoing projects, and shared resources.
