The Bridge Mentoring Plus Scheme

The Bridge Mentoring Plus Scheme was founded in 2002 by three volunteers in response to a need to prevent young people entering the Criminal Justice System. Working closely with the Youth Offending team a small grant enabled the first young people to receive support using trained volunteer mentors. The vision for the Mentoring Scheme further developed with the support of the Bridgend Association of Voluntary organisations and a BBC Children in need grant. In 2004 the Bridge MPS moved to its new rented premises where a Training department was established to deliver accredited training to young people and volunteers. A youth worker was also employed to provide evening activities for mentors and mentees. In 2009 due to further demand on its services the Bridge MPS moved into its current location in Dunraven Place, Bridgend. In 2012 the Bridge MPS had an opportunity to expand when the ground floor premises became vacant. A successful Big Lottery grant provided funds to renovate and furbish the premises, employ staff and set up services. hence, the Zone Community Hub came into existence. Today the Bridge MPS continues to provide a variety of support for the people of Bridgend and looks to an exciting future exploring new opportunities to further meet the community needs.
