The Centre for Restoration’s (TCR) mission is to use restorative justice practices to mitigate sexual violence for student communities in India. We believe that trauma-informed, representative, and affordable social support against sexual misconduct should be available to students of all genders. Our work falls under four pillars: justice, wellness, prevention and truth. Our work falls under four pillars: justice, wellness, prevention and truth. In terms of justice, we adopt the view that individual and community accountability can mitigate future harm. We believe that justice looks different for every survivor-victim, and our institutions should reflect that multiplicity. To that end, we prioritise policy research and reform, and collaborate with legal and restorative justice practitioners. We promote wellness interventions and practices that are trauma-informed, educate communities, and rehabilitate offenders. In doing so, we also intend to make clear the links between individual and community health. With regards to prevention and non-recurrence, we seek to include people who have caused harm in reformative practices of accountability and rehabilitation. We also prioritise awareness-building activities about consent and sexual well-being. We aim to spread awareness and address misconceptions about sexual violence through our work under the pillar of truth. Through research and surveys, we want to build as clear a picture as possible of the scale and types of sexual violence that plague student-spaces in India.
