The Florida Wind Band

The Florida Wind Band is Tampa Bay’s premier professional wind ensemble, inspiring audiences of all ages through powerful performances and a deep connection to community. Founded in 2007 by visionary conductor John Carmichael, the ensemble was created to fill a unique role in Florida’s musical landscape, bringing the artistry and excitement of wind band music to the professional stage. Today, under the direction of Matthew McCutchen, Director of Bands at the University of South Florida, the Florida Wind Band has become a beloved fixture in the region’s cultural scene. The ensemble is composed of professional musicians including music educators, university faculty, and accomplished performers who come together to create concerts that are both musically excellent and emotionally engaging. Each season features a diverse repertoire that spans classic masterworks to contemporary compositions, with programming designed to spark joy, reflection, and inspiration. In addition to its mainstage concerts, the Florida Wind Band is committed to nurturing young talent through educational initiatives and performance opportunities for youth. The ensemble thrives through the generous support of volunteers, donors, and local sponsors, all united by a shared belief in the transformative power of live music. The Florida Wind Band is more than a concert experience. It is a musical movement that uplifts, unites, and celebrates the spirit of Tampa Bay through high-quality, wind band music.
