Karen Gustafson is founding owner of the Gustafson Group Public Relations firm, which has specialized in the design-build, interior design and architectural communities since 1987. Ms. Gustafson was an interior designer, then a journalist and editor of business and design trade publications for 15 years before turning her talents to public relations and marketing communications. Working with Holt Rinehart & Winston, Van Nostrand Reinhold, Whitney Communications and Cahners Publishing Company, Ms. Gustafson authored three books on design and received several awards for writing and design, including the Jesse H. Neal Editorial Achievement Award from the Association of Business Publishers and a Creativity Award from Art Direction Magazine. Since founding The Gustafson Group, Ltd. in 1987, Ms. Gustafson has served as a consultant to a wide range of clients in service and manufacturing organizations. She holds a B.A. in art history from Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia and an M.S. in supervision and administration from Bank Street College, with additional graduate work at George Washington University and the International Institute of Interior Design. She has been a board member of IFMA GNY for 10 years and chairs its public relations committee.
