In essence,"The Hidden Enterprise" can be viewed as an evolution of the concept of the "Hidden Factory" originally coined by Vollmann, Berry, and Whybark in the 1980s."The Hidden Factory" refers to inefficiencies, rework, defects, and waste that exist within an organization's operations but remain concealed or unaccounted for. It represents the additional work and resources required to rectify errors, address defects, and manage various forms of waste stemming from process inefficiencies.
